Did you know that in 1992 a new species of quadruped called the saola, the largest mammal to be discovered recently, was found in the Vu Quang Forest of Vietnam? Even more recent was the announcement in May of 2005 of a species of diatomyidae rodent thought to be extinct for 11 million years that was found alive in Laos. And this was almost immediately followed by the discovery of a new species of monkey in Africa. Did you know that until New York socialite Ruth Harkness brought Su Lin out of the jungles of Tibet to the United States in 1937, that the existence of the giant panda still remained a mystery to practically the entire world? The LHSRC is a research organization that is dedicated to learning more about the unexplained phenomena related to Lake Hodges. In particular, we are focused on the so-called "Lake Hodges Monster," known locally as "Hodgee."
If you are interested in related data, satellite photos, topographical maps, historical images and video footage, please see our data page.
In the near future, we will be mapping the lake floor, looking at the deep earthquake fault running through the middle of the lake, analyzing fish counts and collecting information from the public as to their own sightings.
With a large amount of public use of the lake, we hope to use you, the daily eyes and ears familiar with the lake, to help provide us with leads and stories.
If you do have information you feel may be of use, please send as much detail as possible to us via our contact page. Hard evidence such as photographs are especially helpful.
