W.E. Hodges was born in Fall River, MA on July 23, 1860. This is an old American family - our research shows a family tree going back to the late 1700s.

In 1870 at age 10, he lived in Newport, Rhode Island where his father was a hotel keeper.

Ten years later, in 1880 at age 20, the Hodges family was still in Newport and his father was then an Insurance agent. It is most likely here in Rhode Island where he met his future wife, Caroline E. Taylor.

In 1900, W.E. Hodges was a purchasing agent for the railroad, living in Riverside Township, Illinois, about 20 miles West of Chicago. He was married to his wife Caroline, and had two children, Robert (14) and Elizabeth (12).
